A new program facilitated by Parks and Trails NY, Bike Friendly NY that may be of interest to some members. The purpose of this program is to highlight businesses, particularly hospitality, that are welcoming and suited to the needs of cyclists - both locals on day trips and those touring the state by bike.

The program is simple and participation is free. Specifics are included with a flyer attachment. The application form is online, once it has been filled out, staff will review and if the criteria is all met will send a certification packet in the mail. This packet will include a "Bike Friendly" decal to proudly display. Once certified, the business is added to an interactive online map and can be promoted in statewide cycle guides and promotional materials.
Currently this program has certified businesses in the Capital District, Central NY and Finger Lakes and a small number of businesses in Western NY. With extension of the Empire State Trail to Buffalo and our Shoreline Trail improvements, now is an exciting moment for trails and cycling in WNY. We think that our trail has a lot to offer and know that there are several businesses that are already accommodating to cyclist and we would like those efforts to be recognized!
