The Historical Association of Lewiston is pleased to present our March program: "Mark Twain and the Niagara Frontier".  The event will take place at 7:00 PM Thursday, March 22, 2018 at the Lutheran Church of the Messiah Fellowship Hall, 915 Oneida St., Lewiston, NY.

Thomas Reigstad will present an illustrated presentation that will describe Mark Twain's long association with Western New York.  He lived and worked in Buffalo as a journalist from 1869-1871 and returned to the area several times over the ensuing years.  Tom will address Twain's personal and literary relationships with Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Lockport and even, a bit tangentially, to Lewiston. Furthermore, Twain spent a good deal of time in Niagara County, presenting public lectures, visiting tourist attractions, and setting a few charming, humorous and fanciful stories in Niagara Falls.

Tom Reigstad is a fourth generation Buffaloian with degrees from SUNY Buffalo, the University of Missouri and Canisius College.  He is an Emeritus English Professor at SUNY Buffalo State where he still teaches two courses per semester on American Literature and Baseball and Culture.  He also was a features writer and copy editor at the former Buffalo Courier-Express [Twain co-owner its forerunner] and at the Niagara Gazette (where he met his future wife, a native of Niagara Falls).  Tom is the author of Scribblin' for a Livin': Mark Twain's Pivotal Period in Buffalo.

This community event is free and open to all, refreshments will be served.  Come and join us and discover some history and events in the life of one of America's great wordsmiths and humorists.
