Small Business Saturday Feature: Orange Cat Coffee Co.

Who doesn't love a good cup of coffee in the morning?

That's what residents of the community told Michael Broderick when he was trying to decide what kind of business to open up in the Village of Lewiston. It was the early 2000's when Broderick returned to the Village of Lewiston and he instantly remembered why he loved it here as a kid: the small town feel and charm.  "I grew up in Williamsville, which was small, but very commercial. When I came to Lewiston I instantly loved the culture, small town charm and community. For me, the Village of Lewiston was like something I would see in a TV show and I wanted to be part of that" Broderick said.

A move to Lewiston happened next for Broderick and that's when he really got to know the people in the community. "I wanted to know what people in the community were looking for in terms of business. Most of the conversations with residents led to coffee talk and opening up a coffee shop" Broderick added. With that, Orange Cat Coffee Co. opened its' doors in July 2004. The name Orange Cat Coffee Co. came from two orange cats that Broderick had at the time when the business opened. Fast forward 13 years later, Orange Cat Coffee Co. is one of the most popular stops in the Village of Lewiston. With an array of coffees, teas, muffins, scones, Paninis and soups (all vegan) you can expect a full house any time on any day at Orange Cat.

Orange Cat Coffee Co. has always been an active participant in Small Business Saturday and Broderick knows how important this day is to businesses in the community. "Small Business Saturday calls attention to local businesses in the community. It is nice to have a day that brings it (small business) into focus." Small businesses have an impact on everyday life and it is important to support your fellow local businesses" Broderick said.  Small Businesses "offer character in a neighborhood. We are lucky that Lewiston has molded into its own distinct character. In many communities everything becomes the same and small business can be forgotten." You can see the notion of "small business support" right inside Orange Cat: they have a partnership with D'Avolio Olive Oils & Vinegar, in addition to being part of The Roaming Table: Lewiston Culinary Tour schedule. "As a business owner, you also have to believe in your neighbor businesses. For our fall decorating, I went and purchased pumpkins from Baker Farms. It's an endless circle of support" Broderick mentioned.

For Small Business Saturday, Orange Cat Coffee Co. will have special discounts on whole bean coffees and loose leaf teas, plus there will be more surprises in store that day! Orange Cat Coffee Co. is located at 703 Center Street and their hours are 6 am to 6 pm Mon. -Fri., 7 am-6 pm on Sat. including Small Business Saturday on November 25th  and 8 am to 3pm on Sun. Twitter is the most popular form of social media for the business, with soups and coffee flavors posted daily. Broderick also stated that customers can read reviews online for more information, but the best suggestion would be to "stop in and experience Orange Cat Coffee Co. for yourself."
