For several decades, the Tuscarora Nation has hosted an annual community fair that invites people from all over to visit the reservation and get a taste of the native culture.
Native artisans display and sell their beadwork, along with many other artworks and crafts. There will be presentations on wampum belts and Tuscarora history.
At 5pm, a complete roast turkey dinner is served and everyone is welcomed to partake. ($6 for adults, $4 for seniors and $2 for children
12 and under.)
At 7pm, an auction will be conducted for baked goods, pies and other native items. All proceeds go to help maintain the Nation House and picnic grove.
Recently, both the Town and Village of Lewiston adopted resolutions declaring the second Monday of October "Indigenous Peoples Day" in honor of the Tuscarora and native contributions. Several other cities including Seattle, Portland, Albuquerque, and Minneapolis have done the same.
