GHOSTS & GRAVEYARDS
The first ever Youngstown Ghosts & Graveyard Tour is scheduled for October 11th at Falkner Park begins at 6 PM. This hour and a half walking tour promises to cover both ghost stories and a visit to the local graveyard. Since a large crowd is expected reservations are required and flat shoes and a flashlight for walking in the cemetery is recommended.
Youngstown History Detective Gretchen Duling has been collecting ghost stories since she first moved into the community over 15 years ago. From weeping maidens, mysterious green lights, to visits from the "Shadow People", you will hear about actual incidents and local ghost stories.
Later take a trip with History Detective Karen Noonan to the village graveyard, the Universal Cemetery and visit the grave sites of Youngstown's prosperous 19th century merchants, learn about a private cemetery in the village, and pay your respects to Revolutionary, War of 1812 and Civil War veterans. Learn how the community related to an accidental or unexplained death and what happened when murder charges were brought against a local widow in the 19th century.
These programs are offered free of charge by the Youngstown Heritage Tours and Tourism Committee, call 745-1271 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for reservations. This tour is not recommended for children under 10.
