18th Annual Lewiston Country Fair September 13

            The Village of Lewiston Recreation Dept. with the help of theLewiston Garden Club is sponsoring its Eighteenth  Annual Lewiston Country Fair on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at the Lewiston Red Brick School, 145 N. 4th St., during the Community Yard Sale.

           The Recreation Dept. is looking for the amateur gardeners, farmers, bakers, photographers and creative children and adults to join in the Fair.  The Lewiston Garden Club will be helping with the registration and the judging.  Registration for the competition will begin at 8:45 AM and will end at 10:00 AM.  Judging will take place from 10 to 11 AM.  Registration and category forms can be obtained at the Village Offices or the Recreation Center in the Red Brick School.   There will be competition as with all country fairs for the best in vegetables and the best in flowers.  Vegetables will be judged in many different divisions.  Large pumpkins will be welcomed. 

            Flowers to be judged will be based on those blooming in September as well as dried arrangements and houseplants.  Different categories will be included.  All vegetables and flowers must have been grown by the entrant.

            Amateur bakers will enjoy the cake, pie, cookie and miscellaneous competition.  All ingredients must be from scratch.  Ingredients must be listed and cannot include items such as instant pudding, cake mixes, etc.  Each division will be judged with their individual winners and a Best of Show.

            Again this year will be the relish and jams competition.  This will include pickles, salsa and relishes, jams and preserves.  Ingredients must be listed and must be made from scratch.

            Families and individuals are invited to submit a scarecrow entry in the "Avenue of Scarecrows".  Ribbons will be given in various divisions and a Best of show ribbon will be awarded to the best Scarecrow.  Each entrant must supply his or her own scarecrow.

            Again this year will be the photography competition.  All amateur photographers are urged to submit their photo in one of four categories: nature, people,  landscape, and photos of Lewiston.  A special prize will be awarded to the Lewiston category winner.    Photos can be in color or black and white.  All photos are to be at least 5"x7" and must be matted or framed.  Only two photos can be submitted for each of the categories.

            There will be competition in the Craft category.  The Recreation Dept. is inviting people to bring in their crafts to be judged.  The categories will be wood, printing, painting, wreaths, crafts, Needlework/Sewing,  (no clothing, unless part of another craft such as beading or quilting), crochet/knitting, quilts, and miscellaneous.      

            The Recreation Department will be featuring Chris Borgatti, a local entertainer, who will be singing in the large tent from 11am to 1pm.

            Back for the 5th year will be a Photo Clothesline Show featuring photos of vintage items from Lewiston's past.  The Show will run from 11am to 3 pm.  The show is presented with the sponsorship of the Lewiston Museum.

The Country Fair will host a Community Yard Sale from 9AM to 4PM on the grounds of the Red Brick School.    The public can rent a space to sell items they no longer want.  Spaces will be $12 for a 10 by 10-foot space. ($15 after September 8).   You are asked to reserve a space by calling 754-1990.  

            The Lewiston Junior Garden Club will be having a "Make your own Arrangement" from 11:30 AM until supplies are deleted.  Children 3 to 93 years old can make an arrangement with mums by stopping by the Jr. Garden Club Booth.  All supplies will be provided free of charge.

            Additional events for the Country Fair will be free popcorn, drinks, and balloons. 

            From 11 to 1 PM there will be a petting zoo and from  12 to 2 the Bounce-n-Around will be available for the children.  A balloon sculptor will be on hand from 12 to 2 pm.  All the events are free and open to residents and non-residents alike.  The Country Fair will be held rain or shine with as many events moving inside as possible in inclement weather.

            The timetable for the Country Fair on Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014 is as follows:

            9-10 AM Registration for the Judging entries

            9AM -  4PM  Community Yard  Sale on the Red Brick School Grounds

            10-11 AM  Judging  (Gym will be closed during this time)

11-1  Performance by "Chris Borgatti"

11-1 PM  Petting Zoo

11 AM -3PM  Clothesline Show of Photos of Vintage Items of  Lewiston - Series 5

11AM - 3PM Gym open for exhibition of competition

            11:30 AM - Junior Garden Club Arrangements

            12 Noon - 2PM  Bounce-n-Around and Balloon Sculpture




Application forms for the vegetable, flower, food, photography, craft and scarecrow judging are available at the Village of Lewiston Clerk's Office and Recreation Dept..






            On Saturday, September 13, 2014 the Village of Lewiston Recreation Dept. will be having a Community Yard Sale on the grounds of Lewiston Red Brick School.  Participants can rent a space for the day to sell their Yard sale items to the public.  From 9 AM to 4PM the public is invited to come and get some real bargains.  The Yard Sale is the true recycling time.  If you are interested in obtaining a space, please call 754-1990 or fill out an application in the Village Clerk's Office at 145 N. 4th St. in Lewiston.
